Rule #3

Rule #3 – Don't Drink Calories

Like rule #1, this was not a challenge for me to conform to - it only required some mild variations to my daily beverages of choice. I do have to admit that I have an infatuation with caffeine. I have two cups of coffee every single day – it literally makes me feel like the energizer bunny. Wheee! Tim suggests avoiding milk, fruit juice, and other soft drinks. Diet sodas, unsweetened tea, coffee without cream or sugars are permitted. In the future, I will teach you how I’ve managed to get around drinking straight-up black coffee. I'll give you a hint - it involves cinnamon.

I try to purchase flavored coffee - this one has been my favorite lately. I get it from Gordman's of all places - it is $3.99 for an 8-ounce package.

I do not drink alcohol (that decision could be an entire blog in itself) but if you do, read Rule #4 above. I purchase Aquafina 16.9 FL OZ bottles of water. They're just easy to grab in the morning, inexpensive, and can be refilled over and over. I try to refill the bottle about three to four times throughout the day, so I'm drinking about 70-85 ounces of water. Some experts claim you're supposed to drink an ounce of water for every pound you weigh. I think that is incredibly extreme and I would not be able to drink that much fluid even if I tried. Everyone should drink plenty of water, regardless if you're on this diet or not, but especially if you are. It helps curb hunger, and it helps your body break down the high amount of protein you’re consuming.
